We are in Italy and having a wonderful time!!! After about 24 hours of traveling on planes and hanging out in airports, we arrived in Bari, Italy, in the southern region of Italy known as Puglia. We were greeted by some very kind Rotarians, who miraculously fit our luggage into their cars! (pictures will definitely follow).
After introductions and drinks at the airport, we headed to the small coastal town of Trani. We were welcomed by Peppino (one of the few Peppino's we have met), who was the President of the Trani Rotary Club. He was just as sweet as can be! (FYI - This is Kristin blogging, not Matt or Brian). We made our way to a great restaurant, where the eating began. It really hasn't stopped since!!! Our dinner was filled with several fantastic appetizers, mussels, fried and raw oysters, then a pasta dish with seafood, then some crawfish, and then gelato and lemoncello! Can you imagine - just tons of food! They laughed at us and said we'll gain at least 10 kilos while we are here. Humm...how much does that come out to be? Don't want to know. :)
Oh, so Matt ended up eating a raw oyster the first night. I've got to hand it to him...he's trying lots of new things, new foods, etc. However....this time, it didn't have such a great ending. Malé stomaco (upset stomach) for a couple days:( Poor Matt! Especially when we keep getting more and more food put in front of us. I'll let him share more about that if he likes.
So I added a pictures from our night tour of Trani. Will have to add more pictures later. We were fortunate in that we were in Trani on the day of a religous festival, where they bring a cross in by boat, and have a parade bringing it up to the cathedral. Funny thing was, the marching band was playing the tune, "Three cheers for the red, white, and blue..." We all sang along:)
